Stationary
14 Nov 2022

A soldier returning from leave… a student returning from home… a kid hitting the road for the first time… a rough sleeper looking for a place to spend the night… a criminal on the run… a broken heart at the end of a relationship… a hiker going on an adventure… Could be anyone. Anyone at all, really. It would be impossible to guess. It would be unwise to make any assumptions, impose any limitations, assign any categories, make any sweeping generalisations or blanket condemnations.

Just a person, a stranger, someone I do not know, waiting here, stationary for a moment, as I am.

For a brief moment in time we are in close proximity, him and me. We do not see each other, or act like we don’t, giving each other space by ignoring the other totally.

And I sit here, just like him, anonymous. Waiting for reasons of my own, on my way to places of my own. And it occurs to me, equally: It would be impossible to guess. It would be unwise to make any assumptions, impose any limitations, assign any categories, make any sweeping generalisations or blanket condemnations.
