Secret Garden

Austere walls guard the entrance – like thick skin or a stern face, the ultimate façade. There is nothing to see here, it broadcasts, delivering nothing but bland grey – and iron gates that are strong but plain. It bars entrance without arousing curiosity of what is inside.

And then, at the end of a slope, six and a half paces in, a plain doorway with another gate opens up into a world of vibrant life and colour. Streams and little waterfalls cascade around, and the most exquisite range of flowers bloom, and insects and bugs of every conceivable description go about their work. And birds perch on the treetops, the only welcome visitors.

And such is the heart of the true.

Never on display – but guarded well.
