Laugh Lines And Worry Wrinkles

Oh, she’s seen a thing or two, that grand old dame at the corner of Southmill. Her years are mapped in her countenance… every abuse and injury is documented in the cracks and crannies. And the surface of her exterior could do with some scrubbing and cleaning, and a fresh white coat to make her shine. Weeds can be shaved like unwanted hair, vents repaired and straightened, solid new doors can be placed on fixed hinges. But the world has moved on from her and see no point in maintaining her. So she keeps on keeping on, crumbling, for as long as she can. Even now her first beauty can still be seen… beneath the indignities of time. And despite it all there is some humour in her windows and a smile – to herself – across her face. They think they are neglecting her, but she needs no help from them to be happy. All they do is make their own street less liveable, their own view less beautiful, their own lives more decayed. She can hang on, pretty much, longer than they can. And one day someone will see her, notice her, and bring back her shine. Oh, she’s seen a thing or two, that grand old dame at the corner of Southmill… and she’s perfect as she is… because its been a long, long time since she had anyone to have to please.
