I Love This Land
27 Nov 2023

A town awakes to its own business, unaware of how beautiful it is. They look outside and declare, plans and preference for weather. And only a handful of them venture outside, to go for a walk or a run, to take the dog out, to spend time with their sons on the water.

Too bad it’s autumn, a kid near me says, and I begin to laugh.

I look at the world as it is, not as I think it ought to be, because if you don’t you’ll never see anything.

You keep slavishly to your ideals, kid. You stay focused on what you – want. You keep demanding that reality itself serves your will of how things ought to be.

Give me the falling leaves and autumn sun and reflections. Give me the winds and the birds and the trees.
